Did you know that Dolomite is now one of the most in-demand countertop surfaces in DFW? This previously lesser-known stone has become quite the trend, offering a magnificent centerpiece to your home’s design. Dolomite offers an interesting choice for homeowners because it gives the look and strength of marble at a more achievable cost. It is especially appealing to those who want a very bright white marble style, without using quartzite or granite.
Dolomite stone – also called dolostone – has become particularly popular among Texas Counter Fitters (TCF) partners in South America – especially Brazil. Recently, Brazilian quarries have started excavating this sedimentary rock from their region’s dolomite rocks, finding that it possesses a high magnesium composition that results in a material not as hard as granite, but slightly harder than marble. This hybrid of hardiness between marble and granite makes Dolomite an inviting middle-range category of countertops.
Dolomite’s success in the market can be attributed to the fact that it provides a rich look, feel, depth and clarity that, coupled with its hardness, offers a myriad of benefits. The durability of the stone means it holds up well to heat, and while is it not scratch resistant, it holds its own. Additionally, Dolomite is less likely to absorb liquids than marble, so while it may need occasional sealing, a Dolomite counter is less likely to stain as its marble counterparts. These qualities make Dolomite a suitable material to consider for kitchens or an in-home bar. (Although we have found that it can still be scratched by some glass or metal, so treat it with care!).
