Our natural stone helps homeowners design and create spaces with a nod to the beauty of nature. Our commitment to the best quality product and installation will then transition to your care for and maintenance of your natural stone pieces. We know stone and would like to provide practical tips that can help your stone maintain its richness of design, color, and finish.
A simple way to maintain the look of your natural stone countertop or furniture piece is to purchase festive coasters and have family members and guests use them under their glassware. Perhaps purchase seasonal coasters to compliment your decor. When baking or cooking, use potholders or trivets under hot pots, pans, and other cookware so that the stone is not damaged.
Maintenance
When maintaining natural stone flooring, use a clean, non-treated, dry dust mop frequently to sweep away the debris which can scratch and damage your flooring. Also, position mats at the entry point into the area to collect as much debris as possible before it lands on your flooring. Some households even have guests leave shoes by doorways to prevent dirt from depositing on the flooring. Vacuum cleaners may also be used as long as soft bristles are gently used on the surface of the stone – metal or plastic attachments may cause scratching.
When spills occur, blot the spill immediately with a soft cloth or paper towel – wiping can spread the spill – so blot as many times as necessary. Use warm soapy water on the area and dry with a soft cloth. If the stain remains, purchasing a cleaner specifically labeled for natural stone use may be helpful.
Again, we consider it an honor to install the beauty of natural stone in your home. We hope these general tips will give you peace of mind for how to best care for your natural stone.
Cleaning
Protecting your investment in a natural stone countertop, floor or piece for your home will ensure enjoyment for years to come. Whether you are cleaning up a minor spill or working to remove a major stain, following these tips and tricks will provide peace of mind when caring for your natural stone.
Traditionally, it is said to never use anything on natural stone that you wouldn’t use on your hands – so many common household cleaners simply aren’t designed to do the job. These products are often acidic which could etch or dull the stone’s surface. Substances containing ammonia like Windex can over time also create a dull finish and should be avoided.
While durable, natural stone can be permanently scarred with the use of certain powdered cleaners or abrasive pads. Pumice, which is powdered volcanic stone, can be used to treat tough stains. When possible, purchase a cleaner specifically labeled for use on natural stone. When in a pinch, warm soapy water and a soft cloth can do the trick.
